Rice Rumours
Yeah I know it's that time of year and I know that Journos in the main are a bunch of idle cunts that will not get off their arse to chase down a real story.

Saying that all of the papers seem to be running their website stories about Man U and Rice and how MP failed to quash any selling of the player.

We could do with a strong statement from the board letting them all know that he is categorically NOT for sale.

Re: Rice Rumours
Well no one knows what his valuation is because this isn't like a website listing the price of a car, it is more like an antiques auction. His value is what a buyer is prepared to pay. £52m seems very low though, given Van Dijk going for almost 150% of that - yes it proved a great signing but he is 7 years older and not English which rightly or wrongly attracts a premium, and the impact he has had was in no way guaranteed back when the deal was made.

To be honest it doesn't matter what the fee would be though. It's not as if we could attract a seriously expensive replacement to a mid table club outside of European competition and I am not yet ready to trust the current board (with or without Husillos) to unearth any low cost gems.

So they value him at 60m Euros, or £52m.

I think he'll go after next season. milner will probably retire and fernandihno will also move on, so expect either the scouse or city to buy him

hopefully we have a great year and he stays

Re: Rice Rumours
You have decent players, there will always be rumours. Fuck me, it was Diame a while back. The media will always make out that players for anyone outside the top six are too good for their current clubs. It's a compliment. There's no doubt that if Rice continues at this rate then he will be playing for one of the big clubs in a few years, and a permanent fixture for England. At the moment we just have to hope we get to enjoy him for another season or two. At the moment his potential far outstrips our ambition. If the board can change that I will be amazed, and happy.

No, people on this very thread have been saying someone will rock up with an offer like that. I have expressly said otherwise. No wonder Nigel Farage appeals to you, he must seem like a genius to someone like you.

Re: Rice Rumours
So you think there’s a chance someone would pay £50 million for Rice?

A 20 year old?

That you reckon isn’t any good?

And has one season behind him?

Cheers cretin - thanks for playing.

No I've said we should sell if someone offers 50m. Which they probably won't. You should learn to read, you'll reap the benefits. Not the benefits you currently claim, for clarity.

Let's not forget, Vexd also said that Rashford is a joke footballer and Alexander-Arnold is shit.

Madly, I'm not even making that up.

Ark at the fat bald angry div conceding that a bloke he has consistently written off is worth £50 million at 20 years old with only one full season behind him!

lol

Re: Rice Rumours
It all depends on how well Rice is advised but the sensible thing would be to stay at WHU for now where regular first team play will help him secure a first choice England place. From then on the world is his oyster.

At this moment in time any club would be paying for potential. Rice breaks his leg or doesn't improve then his value will drop dramatically. If someone rocks up with 50+ million up front we should sell. He'd only be worth hanging onto for that money if he was a creative midfielder or forward - the type of player we'd need to spend 50+ million on to replace. I don't think that's the case with Rice. Let some other club take the risk on hm fulfilling his potential if he thinks he's too good for us.

Re: Rice Rumours
Luiz to Chelsea was about 50 mil yet Liverpool paid 75 mil for van Dijk. Throw in the home grown talent tag and if someone is desperate enough for home grown talent we could get a silly bid for him.
Was it City that was rumoured to be after Oxford for 15 mil (which i felt was more due to being home grown and not counting towards there Squad of 25 than being worth the money)

Re: Rice Rumours
I could easily see Man Utd putting in a silly money bid of £70m.

As crazy as it sounds, if Rice is happy to stay, it wouldn't be worth considering £50m as he will be worth at least 20% more a year down the line.

Man Utd will also be conscious of Fernandinho needing replacing within the next year or two and would probably see it as quite a coup to be seen signing the player being talked of as his possible replacement.

80m is pie in the sky talk. 50m is the very top end of feasible.

Re: Rice Rumours
Agree £80m would be good business

But Sullivan is worth £100m more than he was at the start of the season. How about he chucks that profit in the kitty, and we have £80m to spend AND keep Rice?

There’s an idea.

Vexed you do make me laugh fella. Back yourself into a corner about Rice but there you are, still going. Reminds me of that poster who couldn't bring himse!f to ever praise Noble, although I don't remember his name.

WHUDeano 12:44 Wed May 15
Re: Rice Rumours
Seeing his quotes recently, I can't help but think that Pellegrini may think that the £70m we could get for Rice from Man Utd could be more important in pushing us forward as a club than having Rice as first choice for another season or two.

We get another season out of him. And if he’s in the England team next summer. Someone will snap him up after the Euro’s. The problem is the SPIVS selling cheap.

Charlton have a very good player called Joe Aribo who has been dovetailing with Josh Cullen to form one of the best midfield partnerships in the division.

Another one off the Valley production line...Grant, Gomez, Lookman, Shelvey

He is only 21 - City have been sniffing around
